Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced on FOX Business Tuesday that the average cost of a dozen eggs has seen a decline of nearly $2, offering some “positive news” to consumers who have patiently awaited the drop from “record-high” prices.

She specifically noted that egg prices have decreased by $1.85 per carton.
“We believe that… the market has responded to our plan that we rolled out on February 26th,” Rollins stated during the program “Mornings with Maria,” referring to a five-part strategy the Trump administration introduced last month.
The strategy encompasses “short-term” imports, deregulation, biosecurity investments, repopulation of poultry stocks, and funding for vaccines and therapeutic research, as Rollins informed “America’s Newsroom” host Dana Perino on Fox News.
“We still have a significant journey ahead in combating avian influenza. It’s a long-term challenge that won’t be resolved overnight,” she added on Tuesday.
As Easter approaches, Rollins also acknowledged the possibility that this improvement might be temporary, warning that the holiday surge in demand could lead to “sticker shock” for already fatigued consumers.
“We’re entering the peak season for high egg prices without the presence of avian flu, especially with Easter just around the corner,” Collins reiterated.
Despite this, she stressed that the administration is dedicated to addressing the situation promptly.
“We are working on it. We have a comprehensive plan… It consists of five main points, and the encouraging news is that egg prices appear to be declining. An $1.85 reduction per carton is significant, but there’s still much work to do.”
Netizens quickly responded to Rollins’ comments.
“I read that the federal government plans to look into egg pricing. Let me help them: if you kill over 2 million chickens, it leads to a shortage. In economics, shortages drive prices up. Tell the Feds to save funds, it’s basic economics,” remarked one user, referring to the DOJ’s ongoing investigation into egg producers amidst soaring prices, as reported by ABC News.
“‘Biden is giving Trump the greatest economy ever’ — Liberals, January 19th
Why are prices significantly higher under Trump? — Liberals, January 20th,” another user chimed in.
“I paid $10 for a dozen eggs last week, and this week I found them for $8, so it seems to be improving. Financially, I’m not going to stress over a few dollars in fluctuation.”
Nevertheless, other users on social media expressed that the “price drop” hasn’t been observed in their local grocery stores yet.
“I certainly haven’t observed it dropping by $2 in my area,” commented another X user.
As grocery chains limit stock and restaurants increase prices for egg-based meals, along with the prior culling of millions of laying hens ordered by the Biden administration due to bird flu concerns, the ongoing “egg crisis” has intensified criticism directed at President Trump, who has been accused of failing to fulfill his promise of reducing everyday expenses.
Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers have held companies accountable for the soaring egg prices.
“To make food more affordable, it’s essential to look at the dominant food and grocery companies that have earned record profits at the expense of working families facing rising prices,” Democrats reiterated in a letter to President Donald Trump. “These companies often take advantage of crises, such as pandemics and bird flu outbreaks, to inflate prices beyond necessary to cover increased costs.”
On Tuesday, the White House’s official X account posted a tweet celebrating the reported drop in egg prices.
