Airlines Take Legal Action Against Biden Administration for Fee Disclosure Requirement
Several major U.S. airlines are taking legal action against the U.S. Transportation Department due to a new rule mandating upfront disclosure of airline fees.
Airlines for America, in conjunction with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday.
The lawsuit comes in response to the issuance of final rules by the USDOT, which require airlines and ticket agents to display service fees in conjunction with the airfare. The goal of this requirement is to provide consumers with clearer information and help them avoid unexpected fees. The airline group argues that the department’s rule will only serve to confuse consumers and that its attempt to regulate private business operations in a competitive market exceeds its authority.
