Among the passengers on the ill-fated American Airlines flight that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter were notable U.S. figure skaters and their coaches.

Early Thursday morning, U.S. Figure Skating released a statement confirming that several athletes and coaches were aboard the flight.
“It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge that some of our figure skaters, along with their families, friends, and coaches, were among the passengers on the flight,” U.S. Figure Skating expressed in a statement. “Our thoughts are with all those grieving this tragedy.”
“Figure skating is more than just a sport — it is a family, and we stand united.”
Meanwhile, the Kremlin has verified that Russian-born coaches and former world champions Evgenia Shishkova, aged 53, and Vadim Naumov, aged 56, were also on the flight.
The International Olympic Committee expressed their condolences following the incident.
Doug Zeghibe, Chief Executive at the Skating Club of Boston, also shared his sorrow regarding the loss of some community members.
“This tragedy will have far-reaching effects on our community,” he stated during an emotional news conference.
