In the previous fall, Mitchell shared her decision to step back from her anchor role post-presidential inauguration, which took place on January 20th. However, she intends to carry on her duties as a correspondent for NBC News after her departure from MSNBC this Friday.
The 78-year-old will continue in her roles as NBC News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent and chief Washington correspondent.
“After 16 years of being in the anchor chair daily, I wish to have the time to pursue what I truly love: connecting, listening, and reporting from the field,” Mitchell expressed.
Mitchell initiated “Andrea Mitchell Reports” in 2008, making it the longest continually aired show in MSNBC’s daytime schedule.
NBC executives commended Mitchell’s significant contributions in a memo, stating: “Andrea is one of the nation’s leading and most reliable experts on foreign policy and domestic issues.”
“Her extensive sourcing and her capability to secure high-profile interviews are unparalleled,” the network stated, adding, “we are thrilled that she will remain a vital part of the News Group for years to come.”
The network has yet to disclose what program will succeed her show.
