Announcement: Representative Grijalva Discloses Cancer Diagnosis
Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., shared on Tuesday that he has started treatment after receiving a recent cancer diagnosis, CNN reports.
Grijalva, a veteran in office for over 20 years, disclosed that he began treatment a few weeks ago for a persistent cough initially diagnosed as pneumonia. Upon further testing, he was later diagnosed with cancer, although the exact type was not specified in his statement.
“This diagnosis has been challenging, but I have confidence in the treatment plan developed by my medical team, and I am ready to fight this cancer,” Grijalva stated.
“I am keeping in touch with my staff and will continue working while undergoing treatment,” the congressman added, ensuring that his offices will remain operational with minimal disruption to constituent services.
Grijalva also requested privacy and expressed gratitude to his friends, family, and healthcare providers for their support.
“I am focused on regaining my health and returning to work as soon as possible,” Grijalva mentioned. “I appreciate your understanding, well wishes, and respectful consideration of my family’s privacy during this time. My thoughts are with others battling cancer, and I offer strength to everyone in their fight.”
Rep. Nanette Barragán, D-Calif., chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus where Grijalva serves, stated, “The CHC stands in solidarity with Raúl and his team as he battles cancer, and we know he will approach this challenge with his characteristic strength and determination.”
