New York Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is experiencing significant ridicule and criticism after labeling SpaceX CEO, Twitter owner, and DOGE enthusiast Elon Musk as “not smart.”

During a 92-minute live stream on Instagram on Monday, AOC launched a tirade against Musk, calling him an “unintelligent billionaire.”
“This guy is likely one of the most unintelligent billionaires I have ever encountered,” AOC stated.
“They clearly don’t do their research, like, they’re putting 19-year-olds in at the treasury,” she asserted. “This guy is not clever. And the peril of the ignorance and lack of expertise that Elon possesses is considerable… I mean, this individual is exceptionally morally vacant and among the least knowledgeable about the systems we truly understand.”
“The underlying issue is that sooner or later, they’re going to press a button, and things can go wrong,” she continued.
Back in 2019, AOC suggested on “60 Minutes” that a politician’s moral correctness supersedes factual accuracy. However, her critics have argued that such a mindset undermines the integrity of logical argumentation and serves as a tactic for sidestepping her own contradictions, logical fallacies, and evident mistakes.
In her latest critique of Musk, she claimed he is among the “least knowledgeable” individuals making decisions concerning the U.S. government — particularly after he dismantled the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) over the weekend, an agency that has faced allegations of collaborating with Democrats.
On the other hand, many took to social media to criticize AOC’s remarks, with one individual commenting, “AOC calling Elon Musk ‘unintelligent’ might be the most ironic thing she’s ever said— and that’s saying something.”
Another user quipped, “She may unintentionally be the greatest comedian of our time. I know I’m laughing.”
USAID employees were reportedly instructed on Monday morning to stay away from the agency’s Washington offices — following Musk’s claim that President Donald Trump had consented to its closure. USAID staffers also received an email stating that the Washington headquarters would be shut down that day, according to two sources who spoke to Fox News Digital.
Regardless, thousands of USAID employees have already been dismissed, and operations have been stalled in the two weeks since Trump’s inauguration.
As per USAID officials, more than 600 additional personnel were locked out of the agency’s computer systems overnight. Those who maintained access received emails indicating that “at the direction of Agency leadership,” the HQ building “will be closed to Agency personnel on Monday, February 3.”
“In fiscal year 2023, the U.S. allocated $72bn in assistance globally for initiatives ranging from women’s health in conflict zones to clean water access, HIV/Aids treatments, energy security, and anti-corruption efforts. This funding constituted 42% of all humanitarian aid documented by the United Nations in 2024,” according to The Guardian.
