On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) was defeated by Representative Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) with a vote tally of 131 to 84.

“I am grateful to my colleagues for their support and the faith they’ve shown in me to guide House Democrats on the Oversight Committee,” Connolly stated.

After his victory on Tuesday, Connolly, who disclosed last month his diagnosis of esophageal cancer, assured reporters that despite his health challenges, he is prepared to confront the Trump administration.

“Trump might feel more emboldened, but that could also lead to increased recklessness,” Connolly warned. “There are laws in this country, and we will ensure they are upheld.”
