This ambitious investment will commence over the next five years and will include the construction of a state-of-the-art AI server manufacturing facility near Houston, Texas. Additionally, Apple plans to double its Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion.
The company will also launch an Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, Michigan, which will create 20,000 new positions focused on research and development in silicon engineering, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
“This fresh commitment builds on Apple’s enduring legacy of supporting American innovation and advanced high-skilled manufacturing, and will back a variety of initiatives centered on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skill development for students and workers nationwide,” the company stated in a release.
Moreover, Apple intends to bolster its teams and facilities across various states, including California, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington. Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed confidence in the future of American innovation in a statement.
“We are proud to expand on our long-standing investments in the U.S. with this $500 billion pledge towards our nation’s future,” his statement emphasized. “From increasing our Advanced Manufacturing Fund to establishing advanced technology in Texas, we are excited to enhance our support for American manufacturing.”
“We will continue collaborating with individuals and companies across the country to help authors an extraordinary new chapter in the narrative of American innovation.”
This significant announcement follows just two days after 47th President Donald Trump hinted at Apple’s ambitious plans, stating the tech giant aimed to invest “hundreds of billions of dollars” in the United States.
He also mentioned last week that the company was transitioning its manufacturing operations from Mexico back to the U.S.
“Yesterday, I met Tim Cook in the office from Apple. He’s investing hundreds of billions of dollars,” Trump told attendees at a White House event on Friday. “That’s what he relayed to me. Now it’s on him to deliver.”
