Archer: Biden Joined 20 of Hunter’s Foreign Calls “Embracing the Brand”
During testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Devon Archer, a former business associate of Hunter Biden, claimed that Hunter used his father’s status as vice president to promote the Biden brand on more than 20 phone calls during business meetings. Archer stated that the Biden brand helped to support Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company that both Hunter Biden and Archer sat on the board of. According to Archer, Burisma would have gone out of business if not for the Biden name being associated with it. Hunter Biden would introduce his powerful father to potential business partners or investors, either in person or through conference calls. This has raised concerns among Republicans who believe that the Bidens were using their access and influence in government for personal gain. Specifically, they point to a phone call between Hunter Biden and his father in 2015, where they discussed a Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating Burisma. The prosecutor was fired three months later after Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid to Ukraine. Republicans argue that this call potentially violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Overall, Archer’s testimony has further intensified the Republican scrutiny of the Bidens’ business dealings.
