“Today’s fiscal outcome should be regarded as a historic milestone for our nation,” Economy Minister Luis Caputo stated on X. “Argentina no longer faces a deficit.”
The economy ministry reported a total budget surplus of 1.76 trillion pesos, equating to 0.3% of GDP for the year. Additionally, there was a primary fiscal surplus of 10.41 trillion pesos, or 1.8% of GDP, excluding debt payments.
“A zero deficit is now a fact,” Milei proclaimed on social media. “Commitments have been honored.”
Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has slashed public expenditure in an effort to combat skyrocketing inflation, which reached approximately 300% annually in April of last year.
The government’s fiscal framework will persist through 2025, as stated by the economy ministry.
