Arizona Doctors Authorized to Perform Abortions in California after Bill Signed by Newsom
California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom recently approved a bill that allows abortion doctors from Arizona to practice in California.
Senate Bill 233 is now in effect and permits Arizona abortion providers in “good standing” to perform abortions for Arizona residents in California until November 30th if Arizona enforces a near-total ban on the procedure.
In a statement, Newsom criticized Arizona Republicans for attempting to impose a near-total abortion ban and praised the California Legislative Women’s Caucus for quickly providing a solution to protect reproductive freedom.
Currently, abortion is legal in Arizona for up to 15 weeks of pregnancy, but a recent court ruling has allowed enforcement of a near-total ban. Efforts are underway in Arizona to add a constitutional right to abortion, allowing for later abortions to protect a woman’s health.
