As reported by the UK’s Telegraph newspaper, Asma al-Assad, the wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has a “50% chance” of survival as an aggressive type of blood cancer is thought to have returned following treatment received earlier this year.

The 49-year-old former first lady, diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May of this year, is said to be undergoing treatment for the disease while remaining in strict isolation in Moscow.
While one source has stated that she is “dying,” another insider conveyed to the Telegraph that “she has been 50/50 in the last few weeks.”
Reports suggest that Asma had previously spent some time in Russia seeking medical care. Her husband fled to Moscow after his regime was ousted in a recent rebel attack in Syria.
Following the fall of the former president’s regime and the restoration of control in Damascus, Asma al-Assad and her husband were granted asylum in Russia.
Meanwhile, emerging reports from Turkish media claimed that she was considering filing for divorce and leaving the country. However, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for Russian President Vladimir Putin, refuted these claims, stating that she is not pursuing a divorce. He also denied reports that Syrian ex-president’s property assets had been frozen.
