At Least 10 Lives Lost and Over 1,000 Evacuated Amid Severe Flooding – One America News Network

At least 10 individuals have lost their lives, and over a thousand people have been evacuated in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, due to an overwhelming rainfall that fell in just a few hours, equivalent to an entire year’s worth, leading to devastating floods.

On Friday, more than 15 inches of rain inundated the Argentinian city, resulting in considerable flooding that claimed at least 10 lives, forced over a thousand evacuations, and destroyed numerous roads.
“All available resources are being mobilized with assistance from municipal teams, the provincial government, the navy, and the Argentine army to support those in need,” said Bahia Blanca authorities on X.
Images and videos circulating on social media depict mothers and medical personnel fleeing flooded hospitals with their newborns.
Security Minister Patricia Bullrich and Defense Minister Luis Petri visited the area, sharing photographs on their social media accounts of military trucks monitoring the inundated city.
“Moments ago, alongside @luispetri and @jlespert, we updated President @JMilei on the emergency measures being enacted in Bahia Blanca,” she stated.
“Throughout the night, the Federal Security Forces and the Armed Forces have worked tirelessly to aid those impacted by the storm,” she continued. “At this moment, we are on the ground ensuring that help reaches every affected individual.”
Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced that the government has greenlit $10 billion Argentinian pesos (approximately $9.2 million USD) in financial support for Bahia Blanca.
“What the people of Bahia Blanca are enduring is horrifying. We extend our solidarity and support during this challenging time. The Chief of Staff @GAFrancosOk has communicated with the mayor of Bahia Blanca, who requested financial assistance of 10 billion pesos for damage repairs, which we have already approved,” he stated.
Former NBA star Manu Ginobili, who began his career in Bahia Blanca, also expressed his condolences on X, addressing his feelings for his hometown.
“What a heartbreaking sight! Sending a big hug from afar to all those struggling,” he remarked.
According to spokesperson Manuel Adorni, Argentinian President Javier Milei has canceled his planned engagements. However, it remains uncertain whether he will visit the city.
