At Least 20 Detained for Alleged Looting During Devastating Wildfires in L.A. County – One America News Network

Authorities reported that at least 20 individuals have been detained on suspicion of looting amid the ongoing fires sweeping through Los Angeles, California.
During a press briefing on Thursday, L.A. Supervisor Kathryn Barger indicated that sheriff’s deputies have arrested several suspects in evacuated regions.

“I assure you, accountability will follow,” she warned. “Shame on those who exploit our community during this crisis.”
To deter looting and other criminal activities, police patrols will be ongoing, as emphasized by the sheriff’s department.
To curb looting and other illegal actions, L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna stated in the briefing that deputies will remain at roadblocks, conduct roving patrols, and offer additional support to residents who reach out to the department.
“Let me be perfectly clear: over the past night and this morning, we’ve recorded 20 individuals who opted to invade our areas and rob residents who have already endured so much,” Luna stated.
“Remaining in the area during an evacuation order is a misdemeanor by law,” he added. “Committing specific crimes could elevate the charge to a felony.”
Moreover, L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the looting incidents.
“If you choose to loot, commit burglary, engage in grand theft, or exploit individuals seeking insurance and government aid, you will face arrest, prosecution, and severe consequences to the fullest extent of the law,” Hochman declared.
Firefighters continue to battle the Eaton Fire, which has burnt at least 10,600 acres between Pasadena and Altadena, and the Palisades Fire, now exceeding 17,200 acres in size.
