On Saturday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety reported that officers responded to the eastbound I-10 area following a collision involving multiple tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles.

Subsequent to the incident, several vehicles were reported to have caught fire, as confirmed by officials.

Initially, officials reported six fatalities and 13 injuries in the event; however, this number was revised during a news conference on Sunday.

Authorities now confirm that four people died, with two individuals in critical condition. One person was hospitalized for treatment as a precaution, while five others received care and were released.

Additionally, 13 individuals were taken to local hospitals for injury treatment.

While both the westbound and eastbound lanes were closed, they have since reopened.

The National Weather Service’s Phoenix office had issued three Dust Storm Warnings in the vicinity around the time of the crash, though it remains unclear if this was a contributing factor.
