Ben Carson Tells Newsmax: Critics of Trump Ignore His Achievements

Ben Carson, onetime Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, told Newsmax on Monday that detractors of his old boss, former President Donald Trump, are putting appearances before results.

Appearing on “Eric Bolling The Balance,” the retired neurosurgeon clapped back at those who take issue with Trump for his controversial comments while ignoring his record as president.

“If there’s a cult, it’s the Trump Derangement Syndrome cult, who do nothing that makes sense. All of their energy is aimed at somehow getting rid of what they perceive as the threat to their administrative state and to their power,” Carson said.

“Would you rather have somebody that says irritating things but has incredible policies or somebody who has a smooth tongue and wrecks the country,” he added.

His comments come in the backdrop of former House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming’s recent statement that Trump’s influence in the party was “a very, very real threat and concern.”

“It’s painful for me … to watch what’s happening to my party and to watch the extent to which Donald Trump himself has basically determined that the only thing that matters is him, his power, his success,” Cheney told MSNBC on Monday.

Trump is running away with the lead in the Republican presidential primaries for the third straight general election cycle, according to a FiveThirtyEight average of polls.

He leads the next closest candidate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, by more than 45 percentage points. Meanwhile, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley is in third place, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is in fourth.
