Biden and Governor of Utah Encourage Unity and Collaboration in National Politics, Advocate for Less Division

President Joe Biden and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox united on Saturday to call for less bitterness in politics and more bipartisanship, despite their disagreements on many issues.

During a black-tie White House dinner honoring the nation’s governors and their spouses, Biden remarked that politics has become too personally bitter and emphasized the importance of working together to get things done.

Cox, a Republican and chairman of the National Governors Association, echoed Biden’s sentiment, emphasizing the need to maintain bipartisan cooperation and reduce divisiveness in politics. He leads an initiative called “Disagree Better” aimed at achieving this goal.

Both Biden and Cox highlighted the tradition of collaboration and respect across party lines that is essential for effective governance.

The evening included toasts from other governors, including Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, emphasizing the common ground that unites Americans despite political differences.

The dinner concluded with a performance by country singer Trisha Yearwood in the East Room.

The governors, gathered in Washington for their annual winter meeting, had the opportunity to engage with Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House earlier in the day.
