Biden and Harris to Hold Meeting with Martin Luther King’s Family
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris plan to meet with organizers of the 1963 March on Washington and relatives of Martin Luther King Jr. on the 60th anniversary of the event. They will also speak at a reception commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The March on Washington was a significant demonstration for racial justice and helped lead to the passage of civil rights and voting rights legislation. This year’s commemoration comes at a time of threats against marginalized communities and challenges to voting rights. Biden and Harris have been working to advance King’s dream of equal opportunity and have taken steps such as signing executive orders and appointing Black women to federal courts. They also highlight their economic policies benefiting Black Americans and support for historically Black colleges and universities.
