Biden and Trump Neck-and-Neck in Latest NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll

A recent poll indicates that the race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump is extremely close.

In a NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll released on Tuesday, Biden and Trump are tied at 49% among registered voters. Among those who are definite in their plans to vote, Trump holds a slight lead at 50% compared to Biden’s 49%.

Among independents, Biden leads Trump 50% to 48%, while Trump has a lead of 48% to 42% among those who hold an unfavorable view of both candidates. Trump is ahead of Biden 55% to 43% among white voters, while Biden leads Trump 58% to 40% among non-white voters.

The two candidates are equally matched among voters under 45, but Trump leads Biden by a small margin of 49% to 48% among voters aged 45 or older.

When considering independent candidates, Trump leads Biden 42% to 41%, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receiving 11% of the support. Kennedy’s support comes from both Trump and Biden supporters, while third-party candidates like Cornel West and Jill Stein take 7% from Biden.

Voters believe that Trump excels over Biden in handling the economy and immigration, while Biden is favored on issues like abortion and safeguarding democracy. There is a split among voters on whether Trump or Biden would better handle the US role on the global stage.

When it comes to who cares more about the average person, Biden leads Trump by a margin of 50% to 46%.

Following Trump’s felony conviction in a Manhattan court case, 51% of Americans feel that he should either definitely or probably serve time in prison, including 13% of Republicans. Only 14% of Democrats believe that he should not be incarcerated.

The poll surveyed 1,184 voters from June 10-12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
