Biden Angered by Republican Response to Trans Day and Easter Events

President Joe Biden on Monday criticized GOP backlash regarding the coincidence of transgender day falling on Easter Sunday this year.

During the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House, Biden called out House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., for joining conservative critics in questioning the timing of Transgender Day of Visibility and a ban on religious symbols in an Easter egg art contest.

“He’s completely misinformed,” Biden stated about Johnson at the kid-friendly egg roll event.

In a tweet on Saturday, Johnson expressed his discontent with the overlap between Transgender Day and Easter, the most significant Christian celebration.

“The Biden White House has disregarded the core principle of Easter — the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” Johnson tweeted.

“Prohibiting sacred truth and tradition, while simultaneously promoting Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day,’ is unacceptable and disgraceful. The American people are noticing.”

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign team also criticized the timing.

Transgender Day of Visibility — established 15 years ago — always occurs on March 31. Easter falls between late March and mid-April.

White House officials contend that the ban on religious symbols in the egg contest is a longstanding rule that has been consistent across both Democratic and Republican administrations, including Trump’s presidency.

“Regarding the misinformation surrounding the White House and Easter: the American Egg Board flyer’s standard policy prohibiting discrimination in artwork submissions has been in place for the past 45 years, under both Democratic and Republican administrations, for all WH Easter Egg Rolls, including the previous Administration’s,” stated Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for first lady Jill Biden, in a tweet.
