Biden easily wins Michigan despite strong ‘Uncommitted’ voter presence

President Joe Biden easily won the Democrat primary in Michigan on Tuesday, despite a significant number of “uncommitted” votes due to concerns over his position on Israel among Arab Americans in the state.

The organizers of the “Listen to Michigan” campaign were surprised to see the “uncommitted” vote reach potentially over 100,000, far exceeding expectations.

The campaign aims to draw attention to Biden by achieving a 10%-12% turnout of “uncommitted” voters, in a state where Biden defeated Donald Trump by 2.8 points in the 2020 election.

Biden was declared the winner at 9:01 p.m. ET by Decision Desk HQ, shortly after the polls closed. With 25% of the vote reporting, Biden had 79.7% and “uncommitted” had 14.6%.

Michigan has a significant Arab American population, making Tuesday’s results crucial for Biden’s prospects in the general election.

Arab Americans are concerned that Biden has not called for a cease-fire in Gaza and has instead tried to negotiate a temporary pause in fighting with Israel to facilitate the return of American hostages.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., stated on Tuesday that the high support for a cease-fire among Democrats in Michigan is a way to send a message to Biden to listen to their concerns.

The Abandon Biden Coalition is also targeting other battleground states where Biden is trailing Trump, except for Pennsylvania.

In Michigan, Biden was behind Trump by 5.1 points in the battleground state, according to RealClearPolitics polling average. This should alert the Biden campaign, as on the same date in 2020, Biden led Trump by 5.2 points.

Michigan will be a crucial state in Biden’s reelection campaign, as he won it by 154,188 votes over Trump in 2020. Dearborn reportedly has the highest concentration of Arab Americans in the nation, and Michigan has the largest population of Americans with Middle Eastern ancestry.
