A recent report indicates that President Joe Biden continues to have regrets about his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

The Washington Post published a story citing sources familiar with the matter, revealing that the president recently confided in friends that he believes he could have won against Trump in the November election, despite his disappointing debate performance in June and the low approval ratings that forced his exit from the race.
Democratic leaders began urging Biden to step aside for another candidate to take his place following his debate performance on June 27th.
Furthermore, as challenges to Biden’s capability to defeat Trump surfaced among donors, a significant amount of his backing diminished during the summer.
With a little over three months left for campaigning before the election, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris after officially withdrawing from the race on July 21st.
Harris ultimately lost to Trump by a margin of 2.2 million votes.
The New York Post noted that Biden has been careful not to blame Harris while telling aides that he believes he would have secured victory had he not stepped back.
According to The New York Times in September, Biden retained confidence in his ability to beat Trump even after his resignation.
In addition to reflecting on his personal missteps, such as his debate performance, Biden has expressed regret regarding his selection of Merrick Garland as attorney general, as reported by The Post.
Biden, who was encouraged by advisors who believed Garland would be a unifying choice, has privately commented that he feels Garland prosecuted Trump at a sluggish pace and that his son Hunter faced excessive prosecution.
