Biden Gives Ukraine Approval to Use US Weapons Near Russian Border
President Joe Biden stated that Ukraine is not permitted to use U.S. weapons to target locations deep inside Russia, including Moscow, as reported by ABC News.
According to the Associated Press, Ukraine has utilized U.S. weapons to strike within Russia in recent days, based on information from a U.S. senator and a Western official. The weapons were used following guidance from Biden allowing American arms to be used for specific targets in Russia to defend Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.
Senator Mike Rounds, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, confirmed the use of U.S. weapons in the strikes but did not disclose his source of information.
In an interview with ABC News’ David Muir, Biden clarified that the weapons can be employed to target Russian sites near the border but are not authorized to strike Moscow or the Kremlin.
During the 80th anniversary of D-Day at the Normandy American Cemetery, Biden responded to concerns raised by Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that weapons are not provided to Ukraine for attacking Russian territories extensively. Biden also emphasized the importance of defending Ukraine and preventing further threats from Russia to Europe.
