President Joe Biden has enacted a new law officially naming the bald eagle as the national bird.

On Christmas Eve, the White House revealed that the president signed a bill that had received unanimous approval from Congress, thus officially declaring the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States.

This legislation modifies Title 36 of the United States Code.

The distinguished bird has been a part of the Great Seal of the United States since 1782, and it even has a designated holiday. Additionally, in 1940, Congress passed the Bald Eagle Protection Act.

Nonetheless, it was not formally given the title of “national bird” until Tuesday.
