Biden Supports Israel’s Right to Target Hamas

In his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden urged the Israeli government to take action to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

While affirming Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas, Biden pointed to the violence initiated by the terrorist group on Oct. 7.

“Israel has the right to combat Hamas,” stated Biden, referring to the tragic events of that day which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 innocent civilians, including women, children, and men.

He labeled it as “the most deadly day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”

Biden also emphasized that the conflict could end if Hamas released the hostages it was holding.

“Hamas could stop the conflict now by freeing the hostages, abandoning weapons, and handing over those responsible for the events of Oct. 7,” he stated.

However, the president acknowledged the challenging situation in Gaza and recognized the difficulties Israel faces in dealing with Hamas, who often use civilians as shields.

Biden highlighted the responsibility of Israel to protect innocent lives in Gaza, mentioning the high death toll reported by the Gaza Health Ministry and the widespread destruction caused by the war.

He spoke of U.S. efforts to negotiate a cease-fire and provide more humanitarian aid to Gaza, noting ongoing discussions and attempts to secure a deal before Ramadan.

Biden also outlined plans for a temporary pier to facilitate the delivery of essential supplies to Gaza without direct U.S. military involvement.

He called on Israel to allow more aid into Gaza and ensure the safety of humanitarian workers in the region, emphasizing the importance of humanitarian assistance as a primary concern.

Addressing the issue of humanitarian aid distribution, Biden reiterated his support for a two-state solution as the only viable path to peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

He stressed the significance of a two-state solution in achieving security for Israel and enabling Palestinians to live in peace and dignity.

Biden also mentioned the potential for peace agreements with Israel’s Arab neighbors, such as Saudi Arabia, through the implementation of a two-state solution.
