Biden: Ukraine Allowed to Deploy US Weapons along Russian Border
President Joe Biden stated that Ukraine is not permitted to use U.S. weapons to attack targets deep within Russia, including Moscow, as reported by ABC News.
According to the Associated Press, Ukraine has utilized U.S. weapons to strike inside Russia recently, based on information from a U.S. senator and a Western official familiar with the situation.
The report mentioned that these weapons were used following guidance approved by Biden, allowing American arms to be employed to defend Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, by targeting locations inside Russia for this specific purpose.
Senator Mike Rounds from South Dakota, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, affirmed the use of U.S. weapons for these strikes but did not disclose how he received this information.
In an interview with ABC News’ David Muir on Thursday, Biden clarified that these weapons can be used to target Russian positions near the border.
“They are authorized for use in close proximity to the border if they are being deployed on the other side of the border to attack specific targets within Ukraine,” Biden said during a visit to the Normandy American Cemetery on the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
“We are not permitting strikes 200 miles into Russia or in Moscow, including the Kremlin.”
When asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks regarding the supply of high-precision weapons to Ukraine for attacking Russian territory, Biden expressed his concerns about Putin and his actions over the years.
In his speech at the D-Day ceremony, Biden reaffirmed that “we will not walk away” from supporting Ukraine’s defense and preventing further Russian threats to Europe.
“Surrendering to bullies and submitting to dictators is simply unacceptable,” Biden emphasized. “If we were to do so, it would mean forgetting the sacrifices made on these sacred beaches.”
