Bill Maher and ‘SNL’ Criticize Tuition and Debt Relief for Anti-Semitic Views
The media over the weekend highlighted President Joe Biden’s decision to forgive student loan debt, while also addressing the issue of antisemitic protests escalating on American college campuses.
HBO’s Bill Maher and “Saturday Night Live” discussed the high cost of tuition and student debt, which often funds anti-Israel protests and encampments.
“I’m outraged by some of this, especially the college loans,” Maher expressed on Friday’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” He pointed out that the Biden administration’s student debt cancellation could range from $870 billion to $1.4 trillion.
Maher further questioned, “OK, so colleges hike tuition, students take out loans, and then the government steps in to pay off those loans. So, my tax dollars are supporting this hatred towards Jews? I don’t think so.”
The data referenced by Maher was from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, which revealed that $620 billion has already been forgiven in student loan debt, with estimates suggesting an additional $250 to $750 billion could be added with the new debt cancellation plan.
“SNL” also highlighted the irony of taxpayers funding education that leads to anti-America and anti-Israel protests.
“Alexis Vanessa better be in class,” a comedian joked in the show’s cold open. “I hope she’s not in one of those tents instead of the dorm room that I’m paying for.”
