Billionaire Donors Repudiate DeSantis Policies, Survey Reveals
Two billionaire donors, Ken Griffin and Nelson Peltz, have withdrawn their support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign. Ken Griffin, a hedge fund chief executive and philanthropist, initially expressed his willingness to support DeSantis, citing his strong record as governor of Florida. However, Griffin decided to end his financial support in light of Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act, which prohibits the discussion of gender and sexuality in curriculums. Griffin stated that he is assessing the policies of each candidate in terms of their impact on democracy and individual rights.
Similarly, Nelson Peltz, an investor and former supporter of Donald Trump, withdrew his financial support due to DeSantis’ position on abortion. Peltz found DeSantis’ stance on abortion to be too extreme and believes it undermines his desire to support DeSantis financially as a candidate. Peltz recently donated around $80,000 to a political action committee supporting DeSantis’ rival, Senator Tim Scott.
These developments highlight the influence of wealthy donors in presidential campaigns and their ability to withdraw support based on disagreements with a candidate’s positions. DeSantis will need to navigate these potential obstacles as he seeks the GOP nomination for the presidential election.
