Blinken: Signs of China’s Attempt to Meddle in Elections

The U.S. has seen Chinese attempts to influence and potentially interfere with the upcoming elections, as revealed by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday.

During an interview with CNN at the end of his visit to China, Blinken discussed meeting with top officials, including President Xi Jinping, who had previously assured President Joe Biden that China would not interfere in the elections.

Xi had made a commitment to stay out of the 2024 election during his meeting with Biden in November.

Biden and Xi had a face-to-face meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco.

Although Xi had promised not to interfere in the election, Blinken expressed concern over evidence of Chinese attempts to influence and potentially interfere with the elections. He emphasized the need to stop such interference quickly.

Blinken also warned China about the possibility of further actions by the U.S. in response to its support of Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
