BMW recalls over 390,000 cars for airbag issue prompting safety concerns, reports One America News Network

BMW is now recalling over 390,000 vehicles in the United States, citing the potential for its airbag inflators to explode in some cases.

In an explanation statement, the agency said that the original steering wheel could have been replaced with an M-sport or sport wheel equipped with a Takata inflator.
Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that if the inflator where to explode, it could result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or others in the vehicle resulting in fatalities or serious injuries.
However, the report also went on to claim that BMW has not received any reports of any incidents related to the issue.
The NHTSA said that the recall of 394,029 vehicles includes certain 2006-2011 3 Series Sedan (324i, 325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 330i, 330xi, 335i, 335xi), 2006-2012 3 Series Sportswagon (325xi, 328i, 328xi), and 2009-2011 3 Series Sedan (335d) vehicles.
BMW dealers have agreed to inspect and replace the driver’s air bag module for free as long as a vehicle is included in the list of affected cars.
Additionally, owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 23rd and vehicle owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
