Bobulinski’s lawyer responds to Democrats’ ‘abusive behavior’

An attorney for Tony Bobulinski, a former business associate of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden, expressed concern about “abusive conduct and disingenuous mischaracterizations” his client endured under questioning by House Democrats during a deposition Tuesday.

Bobulinski, seen as a key figure in the House impeachment inquiry into alleged influence peddling and other alleged criminal activity involving the president and members of his family, gave a closed-door transcribed interview Tuesday in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said Bobulinski testified the president not only knew about his family’s dealings with CFEC Energy, which has links to the Chinese Communist Party, but he also enabled them and participated in them.

Comer told Newsmax on Tuesday he had “never seen such witness intimidation as what I saw,” accusing Democrats, such as ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, of “wagging their fingers. They were pointing. They were yelling. They were calling Tony Bobulinski a liar. They were telling him to shut up.”

In a letter to Raskin on Wednesday, a copy of which Newsmax obtained, attorney Stefan Passantino wrote that while the committee prepares to publicly release Bobulinski’s transcribed interview, he wanted to immediately address “your scurrilous allegations.”

“First, it is categorically false to assert that Mr. Bobulinski failed to ‘provide any evidence at all that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings’ or that he did not testify that ‘Joe Biden was not part of [the Biden family’s] business structure,'” Passantino wrote. “Mr. Bobulinski’s testimony and motivations for coming forward will soon be available for all to see, and false mischaracterizations will have no place in this debate.”

In a statement Tuesday after Bobulinski’s deposition, Raskin tried to impugn Bobulinski’s character.

“Unable to support his claims against President Biden with any evidence, Mr. Bobulinski accused multiple FBI agents of lying in their Form FD-302 report, accused the Wall Street Journal of lying in their reporting which dismissed Mr. Bobulinski’s claims, accused [former Trump White House aide] Cassidy Hutchinson of lying, and accused his former business partners as well as nine of Republicans’ own witnesses of lying because they have affirmed that Joe Biden was not involved in his son’s business ventures,” Raskin said.

In his letter, Passantino wrote Bobulinski “has a proud and exemplary history of serving this country in the military and his patriotism cannot be questioned.” He said the transcript will show Bobulinski did not accuse the FBI of lying about his voluntary statements before them in October 2020, after details of Hunter Biden’s laptop were revealed.

He wrote Bobulinski corrected errors in the FBI’s FD-302 report about his statements and the errors could have been corrected years ago had Bobulinski been shown the FBI’s internal summary or if “any government agency had reached out to us at the time.”

“Mr. Bobulinski will vigorously defend his honor, reputation and patriotism against all who choose to ignore the facts and deflect from the truth by issuing falsehoods and engaging in rank character assassination,” Passantino wrote. “The truth is coming — and those who choose to knowingly perpetuate false narratives by dishonestly attacking Mr. Bobulinski will find themselves on the wrong side of history.”
