Bodega Worker Was Absent During Trump’s Visit
A report by the New York Daily News revealed that Jose Alba, a Harlem bodega worker, was not present during Donald Trump’s visit on Tuesday as he was in the Dominican Republic with his family at that time.
His lawyer, Richard Cardinale, mentioned that Alba tried to make it back for the visit but was unable to find a flight in time.
In 2022, Alba, aged 64, worked at the Blue Moon Convenience Store on Broadway where he was involved in a self-defense incident with Austin Simon, 35, resulting in Simon’s death. Alba was initially charged with second-degree murder and spent some time in Rikers Island before the case was dropped by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Contrary to assumptions, Alba is not a supporter of Trump. His lawyer confirmed that he is apolitical and believes in law and order.
Due to the traumatic incident at work, Alba is now hesitant to work at any bodegas in the neighborhood, as noted by Cardinale.
Francisco Marte, founder of the Bodega and Small Business Association, tried to reach out to Alba regarding a possible Trump visit but was unable to connect due to his remote location. Marte emphasized the importance of public safety in these establishments.
Alba’s frequent visits to the Dominican Republic have aided in his recovery from the attack, according to Marte. However, he still struggles with flashbacks and the physical scars from the incident.
Meanwhile, Trump, who is in New York City for his Manhattan trial, has been active, meeting with foreign dignitaries and engaging in media appearances.
