British MP Lammy speaks to Newsmax about potential collaboration with Trump in the event of his election victory

David Lammy, Britain’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, told Newsmax on Wednesday that despite being a critic of Donald Trump, he believes his country can collaborate with the former president if he wins the November election.

Lammy, a member of Parliament for the liberal Labour Party, is currently in the U.S. meeting with Democrat and Republican leaders. As the minority party in Britain, the Labour Party appoints a shadow Cabinet to question and challenge the ruling Cabinet in specific policy areas, presenting itself as an alternative government-in-waiting.

Britain is also gearing up for an election this year, although the date is yet to be determined. Lammy expressed his confidence on “The Record With Greta Van Susteren” that if his party regains the majority, it can effectively work with a Trump administration.

“The free world needs us to work together,” Lammy emphasized. “Regardless of personal opinions, cooperation is essential. If I become the U.K.’s foreign secretary, we will definitely work together.”

Reflecting on Trump’s leadership, Lammy acknowledged that it took some time for Britain’s leaders to understand his approach. He mentioned that Trump’s actions, particularly regarding NATO and Ukraine, caused concern among Europeans.

However, Lammy pointed out that Trump’s practical support for Europe was evident, citing increased spending and troop deployments. He urged European colleagues to closely examine this record, highlighting the importance of the transatlantic relationship in dealing with global challenges like Iran, China, and Russia under Putin’s leadership.
