Abdur Jabbar, 24, hailing from Beaumont, Texas, shared with the New York Times that his brother, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, is suspected of causing the New Year’s Eve tragedy that resulted in at least 15 deaths.
Nevertheless, Abdur remarked that his brother’s actions “do not represent Islam. This is more a case of radicalization, rather than religion.”
The Times also noted that Abdur characterized his brother as “a sweetheart really, a nice guy, a friend, really smart, caring.”
Furthermore, authorities reported that the suspect had posted videos on his Facebook account prior to the incident, “pledging allegiance to ISIS,” according to The Times.
In one of these alarming videos, Jabbar revealed intentions of killing his family.
According to The Times, Jabbar, who had been divorced twice, had two daughters aged 15 and 20 with his former wife, Nakedra Charrlle.
It has been reported that Shamsud-Din was recording these videos while driving and that they may have been filmed while he was traveling from Houston to Louisiana, based on law enforcement insights.
Additionally, federal authorities suspect that the perpetrator did not act alone in executing the brutal attack that left a minimum of 15 individuals dead and over 35 injured.
The accused, an Army veteran from Texas, was seen displaying an ISIS flag affixed to a rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV pickup as he drove into a crowd of New Year’s Eve festivities on Bourbon Street.
