The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified three products from Cal Yee Farm – Dark Chocolate Almonds, Dark Chocolate Apricots, and Dark Chocolate Walnuts – as Class 1 due to the presence of undeclared milk.
On January 22nd, the FDA reported that undeclared milk could cause severe health reactions in individuals with milk allergies, which can include hives, abdominal cramps, dizziness, swollen vocal cords, loss of consciousness, and even fatal outcomes.
The recalled items consist of Dark Chocolate Walnuts, Dark Chocolate Raisins, Dark Chocolate Almonds, Yogurt Coated Almonds, Dark Chocolate Apricots, Tropical Trail Mix, and Butter Toffee. Additional recalls also include Almonds, Mango with Chili, Hot Cajun Sesame Sticks, New Orleans Hot Mix, and fruit baskets.
In December 2023, Cal Yee Farm announced they were recalling several chocolate and yogurt-covered products available on their website and sold in California, Arizona, Virginia, New Mexico, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
They emphasized that consumers with allergies or sensitivities to milk, soy, wheat, sesame, almonds, and FD&C #6, a food coloring, may experience a “life-threatening” allergic reaction.
“We initiated a voluntary recall for undeclared milk, soy, wheat, sesame, FD&C #6, and almonds in our snack products due to old labels that failed to specify allergen information,” Cal Yee Farm clarified on their website on Wednesday. “Current labels now accurately reflect known allergens.”
