CBS News employees have voiced their discontent over the parent company’s plans to resolve the $10 billion lawsuit initiated by President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit pertains to a previous “60 Minutes” interview featuring unsuccessful Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Trump filed the lawsuit in October, alleging that the network inequitably edited the interview with Harris, portraying her in a more favorable light through selective editing techniques during production.
The contentious interview was conducted by host Bill Whitaker on “60 Minutes,” during which the network merged two distinct responses from Harris to a singular question about why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supposedly wasn’t “listening” to the United States.
One of Harris’s responses used in a promotional teaser differed significantly from the version aired during the actual segment, which Trump and his supporters claim demonstrates clear favoritism in the editing process.
Recently, Paramount chairwoman Shari Redstone began negotiations with Trump’s legal representatives regarding a potential settlement, drawing criticism from CBS staffers who warn that such a move could establish a “dangerous precedent for press freedom.”
“Trump’s lawsuit is a farce; however, if we agree to a settlement, we risk becoming a laughingstock,” stated an anonymous CBS employee, as reported by CNN.
Both CBS News president Wendy McMahon and “60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens are reportedly against settling the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Paramount Global, the parent company, is seeking a fresh start with the new Trump administration as it navigates its merger with Skydance, which must obtain approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
“Actual accountability for CBS and Paramount is critical to ensure that the president receives recompense for the damages inflicted upon him,” asserted Trump’s attorney, Edward Paltzik.
The discussions of a settlement emerge following a recent agreement by the Walt Disney Company to settle a defamation lawsuit concerning remarks made by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, who erroneously asserted that Trump had been found liable for rape in the E. Jean Carroll case.
Disney consented to donate $15 million to Trump’s presidential library, in addition to covering $1 million in legal expenses.
