Chicago Officials Worried About Safety at DNC Convention

Concerns are rising in Chicago over potential violence at the upcoming Democratic National Convention despite a $75 million investment in security using taxpayer funds, as reported by the Daily Caller.

Organizers are preparing for major protests during the August event, with more than 70 organizations coming together in a coalition called “March on the DNC” to denounce President Joe Biden’s alleged role in the “genocide” of Palestinians, a spokesperson informed Time.

Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez expressed concerns to the Daily Caller, saying, “Individuals are not coming here to peacefully protest. They’re coming here so they can take home the badge of honor being pelted by a police officer’s weapon or some sort of mark of shame…politically, we have to be prepared for anything.”

The “March on the DNC” coalition plans to march on the first and last days of the convention at the United Center, according to a spokesperson interviewed by Time.

State Rep. John Cabello predicts that emotions will run high and anticipates arrests due to potential disruptions to the convention. He emphasized the importance of allowing the Democrats to conduct their convention unhindered.
