Cohen Reveals Trump Approved Payment to Porn Star
During his testimony on Monday, Michael Cohen, former fixer for Donald Trump, informed jurors that the Republican presidential candidate personally approved a payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to prevent her from revealing an alleged sexual encounter that could have impacted his 2016 campaign.
Cohen stated that Trump instructed him to “Just do it” and find the best way to pay Daniels $130,000 to keep the encounter quiet. This payment is a pivotal point in the ongoing trial of a former U.S. president, now in its fifth week in a New York state criminal court.
Cohen, once a loyal aide to Trump, now a key witness for the prosecution, revealed that he discovered Daniels was selling her story during a crucial time for Trump’s campaign, just before Election Day, when the “Access Hollywood” recording had been released.
Prosecutors claim that Trump reimbursed Cohen after the election and concealed the payment by falsely recording it as a legal retainer fee in his real estate company’s records. Trump is facing 34 charges related to falsifying business records linked to this reimbursement.
Despite the allegations, Trump maintains his innocence, denies any sexual encounter with Daniels, and argues that the case is politically motivated to disrupt his campaign against President Joe Biden.
Trump’s defense suggests that the payment was made to protect his family from embarrassment, but Cohen testified that Trump was primarily concerned with the impact on his campaign.
