House Oversight Chair James Comer has launched an investigation into Vice President Kamala Harris in regards to what she has personally done to combat the ongoing border crisis that has exacerbated under Biden and Harris’s administration.

On Tuesday, Comer (R-K.y.) sent a probe letter to Troy Miller, the senior official performing the duties for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He questioned if Harris has had any communication with CBP about the Southern border.

“It is unclear what actions, if any, Vice President Harris has taken to fix the border crisis,” Comer wrote. “One Border Patrol agent noted Vice President Harris is ‘the border czar and has been remotely close to the border once in four years.’ Another claimed the Vice President ‘hasn’t literally done anything’ and stated, ‘she came to the border once and we sanitized all the aliens out of there to make it look good.’”

He continued, citing a report by The New York Post that quoted border agents speaking on Harris’s actions.

“The Committee seeks to understand whether Vice President Harris has ‘done anything’ to address the worst border crisis in American history,” he wrote.

Comer also quoted Harris when she spoke about the “root causes” of illegal migration to the U.S. when she was handed the border role by Biden in March 2021.

Biden assigned Harris the duty of addressing the “root causes of migration” in Central America early in his presidency. The task resulted from an executive order signed by him in February 2021, which claimed to inhibit illegal immigration to the U.S. from the Northern Triangle nations of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, where natives have chosen to migrate from due to their own criminal history, poor living conditions, gang violence, drug trafficking, and unstable economies.

The White House claimed in March of this year that Harris had succeeded in getting businesses to pledge more than $5 billion towards creating more job opportunities and “lowering the rate of crime” in these foreign countries. However, officials were also vague by refraining from giving statistics or specific examples of how her role ultimately benefited the U.S. or how it inhibited foreigners from crossing the southern border illegally

“[W]e also understand that we will enforce the law and that we also — because we can chew gum and walk at the same time — must address the root causes that — that cause people to make the trek, as the President has described, to come here,” Harris said on March 24th, 2021.

“Instead of focusing on the southwest border, through which millions of illegal aliens have been let into the country by the Biden-Harris Administration, Vice President Harris focused on the purported ‘root causes of irregular migration’ from Central America,” Comer wrote. “Central to Vice President Harris’s root causes initiative is an effort to provide $4 billion to the region over four years.” Vice President Harris has traveled to Central America — to Mexico and Guatemala in 2021 and to Honduras in 2022 — more than she has traveled to our own southern border.”

The petition came a few weeks after six Democrats joined in with House Republicans to “strongly condemn” Harris for her failure to secure the border.

The resolution, brought by House Republican Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), resulted that neither Biden nor Harris having ever spoken with Jason Owens, the current chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, or his predecessor, Raul Ortiz.

Since President Biden and Kamala Harris took office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has reported that, at the very least, 7.8 million illegal border crossings have occurred, plus at least 1.5 million “gotaways” – which means border crossers who were detected by CBP technologies, but who were never apprehended, according to U.S. Texas Senator John Cornyn.
