On Tuesday, Comer (R-Ky.) issued a statement regarding this development.
“It is a privilege to continue serving the American public as Chairman of the House Oversight Committee,” Comer remarked in his statement. “The American populace has made it abundantly clear that they expect both President [-elect Donald] Trump and Congress to reform the federal government, making it more accountable. Oversight Committee Republicans are prepared to move forward quickly to meet this expectation.”
“Many of President Trump’s essential priorities are in line with the Oversight Committee’s responsibilities, such as federal civil service, government efficiency, management, federal procurement, and executive branch restructuring,” he added. “We will actively collaborate with President Trump and his administration to ensure accountability within the federal bureaucracy and that taxpayers’ money is utilized effectively. Our goal is to foster solutions that enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of the federal government to the American people.”
In the current Congressional session, Comer has focused on investigating the international business dealings of President Joe Biden and his family, which are purportedly connected to influence peddling and providing access to the President.
Last week, Comer suggested plans to reintroduce the Stopping Home Office Work’s Unproductive Problems (SHOW UP) Act. This comes in light of a recent agreement between the union representing 42,000 Social Security Administration employees and the Biden administration, permitting remote work until 2029.
The SHOW UP Act had previously cleared the House in February 2023 but did not progress in the Democrat-led Senate.
