Congress Increases Investigation into Antisemitism at 10 Colleges
Six congressional oversight committees are reportedly conducting an investigation into antisemitism at 10 prestigious colleges. This investigation could potentially lead to the termination of billions in federal funding.
The Washington Free Beacon, citing a series of letters it had obtained, reported that six GOP committee chairs sent letters to Harvard, Columbia, MIT, Barnard, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Rutgers, and the University of California’s Berkeley and Los Angeles branches.
The lawmakers expressed deep concern about ongoing acts of antisemitic harassment and intimidation on campus and emphasized the importance of creating a safe learning environment for all students.
The committees are investigating whether the universities have violated Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which requires recipients of federal funds to protect minorities, including Jews.
The GOP leaders stated that this Congress will not tolerate a hostile environment for Jewish students on campus.
Each of the schools has faced criticism for anti-Israel protests and rising antisemitism on their campuses.
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce, along with the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, are leading the investigation into antisemitic harassment, with other powerful committees joining to determine if federal funding should be cut off for violating Jewish students’ civil rights.
According to the Free Beacon, all 10 schools rely on federal funding, with Harvard alone receiving $625 million in taxpayer funds in 2021.
