Congressman Cline Informs Newsmax: House to Exert ‘Power of Purse’ over DOJ
The GOP-led House Committee on the Judiciary, led by Rep. Ben Cline, is planning to use the power of the purse aggressively to hold the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI accountable. Cline stated that they will thwart plans for a larger FBI headquarters building and change the culture within the agencies through funding and affecting their new headquarters plans. Cline emphasized that the Judiciary Committee demands answers from the DOJ and FBI because the people are demanding them. Conservatives have been critical of federal law enforcement, claiming a soft approach on tax evasion by President Joe Biden’s son compared to multiple investigations of former President Donald Trump. Cline argued against the FBI’s plan to build a new headquarters, which would be larger than the Pentagon, and said they have included language to stop the funding. He also mentioned that GOP House lawmakers are ready to crack down on DOJ officials who do not respond to subpoenas, suggesting that they could lose their pay. The Judiciary Committee, along with other committees, has launched an inquiry into the DOJ’s decision on a plea deal with Hunter Biden.
