Congressman Comer tells Newsmax: Hunter Team Returned ‘Begging for Help’

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., told Newsmax on Tuesday that after the “publicity stunts” that fell flat, Hunter Biden’s legal team foresaw a loss coming in the courtroom, which is why they came “crawling back” to the hearing room.

Comer said on “Rob Schmitt Tonight” that he and House Republicans will have patience, to a point, with Biden and his lead legal counsel, Abbe Lowell.

“It looks like Abbe Lowell’s been humbled. He’s essentially come crawling back,” Comer told Schmitt. “Their publicity stunts didn’t resonate with the public. … I mean, this is a simple request. … We’ve done everything the right way. And the bottom line — we can win in court. Anywhere, anytime someone defies a subpoena or tries to object or obstruct and this heads to court, we will win.”

Lowell sent a letter to Comer and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, last week that Hunter Biden will appear for a closed-door deposition after all after new subpoenas are issued.  

“We’ve done this the right way. Abbe Lowell sees that. Now he’s come back and said, ‘All right, all right, we’ll come. We’ll do the deposition,’ and we’re negotiating on the date,” Comer said. “But look, if they don’t give us a date in the next few weeks, then we will proceed with contempt. … The votes are there.”

The Oversight and Judiciary panels voted for the contempt resolution. However, Comer and Jordan called off a full floor vote that was scheduled for this week “to give the attorneys additional time to reach an agreement.”

“I want to bring, and so does Jim Jordan, we want to bring Hunter Biden in,” Comer added. “We have hundreds of specific questions about specific transactions and specific meetings that Hunter Biden took with our enemies around the world that resulted in millions of dollars going into the Biden family’s back pocket.

“So we believe if we have to wait … 3 or 4 more weeks to get him in for a deposition, we’ll do it. But they know that they’re going to be held in contempt. And they know that (Attorney General) Merrick Garland will have to treat Hunter Biden the exact same way he’s treated Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon. That’s a given.

“Abbe Lowell’s finally figured that out, and here we are, in a very strong position moving forward with this deposition.”
