Congressman Gimenez tells Newsmax: Impact of Houthi targets will be revealed

Rep. Carlos Giménez, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Thursday that he’s in wait-and-see mode regarding the importance of allied strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, saying the targets hit will show whether the Biden administration is serious or just placating Americans.

Joining “Rob Schmitt Tonight” along with America First Policy Institute senior fellow Fred Fleitz, Giménez had little information to go on at the time of the interview about the strikes carried out by the U.S. and British militaries.

“The importance of the move is exactly what targets were hit,” Giménez told Schmitt. “If you’re gonna hit some depot out in the middle of the desert, where nobody’s at, I don’t see that as being very important.

“So you know, maybe it’s symbolic, and maybe it’s something to placate the American people, who are asking for a little bit of action, especially since, you know, [Houthis] keep on trying to sink ships in international waters, and we haven’t done anything about it,” Giménez added.

“And the reason they keep trying to sink ships in international waters is because [Biden officials] haven’t done anything about it. Well, let’s see what they actually went after before I have any comments whether it’s really going to be effective or not.”

After the interview, information released indicated that the military strikes included logistical hubs, air defense systems, and weapons storage locations. Strikes occurred in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a and also Hodeida, the largest port city controlled by Houthi terrorists.

President Joe Biden released a statement saying the “targeted strikes are a clear message that the United States and our partners will not tolerate attacks on our personnel.”

We’ll see, Fleitz said.

“What was actually attacked? We’ve seen too many claims by Biden officials that they took decisive action against Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Syria, to find out later they bombed empty buildings and weapons depots,” Fleitz said.

“And I think our enemies are just laughing at us. If this was a substantial strike, I give the Biden administration credit. But I want to see what happened,” Fleitz said.
