Conservative Individual Set to Succeed Romney

Mitt Romney’s decision not to seek reelection to the Senate was not unexpected. Despite raising money, Romney privately anticipated a difficult renomination battle. It is now certain that his successor will be a conservative Republican who supports Donald Trump.

State Senate Majority Leader Brent Wilson has raised $5 million and Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs has the endorsement of Mark Levin and Charlie Kirk. Both Wilson and Staggs are Trump supporters.

State Attorney General Sean Reyes is also considering the race.

According to a GOP operative in Utah, Romney was once considered a leader in the Mormon Church, but his vote to impeach Trump changed that perception. Utah Republicans are strong supporters of Trump.
