COVID Panel in House Requests Dr. Fauci’s Private Correspondence
Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio., wrote a letter to Dr. Anthony Fauci requesting his private emails and cellphone records regarding the Wuhan Institute of Virology, EcoHealth, and the origins of the coronavirus. Wenstrup, serving as chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, expressed concerns about Fauci potentially using personal emails to evade transparency under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Committee noted in a press release that this new evidence raises serious concerns about public health officials concealing information from the public.
Last week, the Committee hinted at potential criminal charges against Dr. David Morens, Fauci’s Senior Advisor, for attempting to avoid transparency. The email cited was from Morens to EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak, where Morens suggested using Fauci’s private Gmail account for sensitive communications. Wenstrup’s letter to Fauci highlighted the committee’s concerns about NIAID officials evading transparency and undermining public trust.
Fauci is set to testify before the subcommittee on Monday, June 3, marking his first appearance before Congress since retiring. He has until June 12 to respond to the committee’s request.
