CPAC Poll: Joe Biden Likely to Sit Out, Michelle Obama a Potential Replacement
A recent straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference suggests that the majority of respondents believe that President Joe Biden will not be the next Democratic candidate, with former first lady Michelle Obama being a favored replacement.
Out of 1,478 conservatives surveyed by McLaughlin & Associates from Wednesday to Saturday, 56% expressed doubt that Biden would secure the nomination. When asked who they think would take his place, 47% indicated Michelle Obama.
Other contenders for the Democratic ticket included California Gov. Gavin Newsom at 32%, Vice President Kamala Harris at 6%, and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 2%.
Kennedy initially ran as a Democrat but transitioned to an independent candidate after facing obstacles from the Democratic National Committee in appearing on various state ballots as a Democrat. Additionally, a report from The Hill revealed that the DNC accused Kennedy’s super PAC of being financed by a MAGA donor.
Regarding Michelle Obama, a piece from Newsweek in 2013 highlighted her denial of presidential aspirations during an interview on Netflix. She emphasized that she had never expressed an interest in politics and had never considered running for office.
