Cuba Gooding Jr. Reveals to Newsmax: I Prefer to Keep My Politics Private
Actor and producer Cuba Gooding Jr., told Newsmax on Saturday that while many actors and celebrities feel the need to express their opinions on current events, he prefers to keep his political views to himself.
Gooding Jr. discussed his upcoming film “Firing Squad” with host Rob Astorino, which focuses on a group of Americans in an Indonesian prison facing execution by firing squad. The Academy Award winner stressed the importance of movies that highlight redemption, courage, and faith.
Astorino pointed out the tendency of many Hollywood figures to speak out on controversial issues, citing Robert De Niro’s public statements during former President Donald Trump’s trial. Gooding Jr. mentioned that while he respects actors who choose to be vocal, he personally chooses not to engage in political discourse.
During an appearance on “Saturday Agenda,” Gooding Jr. shared that his father believed he was a Republican before his passing in 2018, while his mother still thinks he is a Democrat. He aims to maintain this ambiguity regarding his political affiliations.
“I understand why some actors feel compelled to use their platform to advocate for social change as they get older, but I prefer to keep my political beliefs private while supporting the military,” Gooding Jr. explained.
