Cuccinelli Corrects Haley’s Statement on DeSantis, Tells Newsmax

In a Saturday interview on “America Right Now” on “Newsmax,” Ken Cuccinelli, founder of the Never Back Down super PAC supporting GOP presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis, shared his reaction to former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s recent dismissal of the Florida governor’s chance to beat her in the primaries.

Responding to the question about Haley’s dismissal, Cuccinelli emphasized that Haley won’t even be on “the ballot in Nevada” and said the “beauty contest primary two days before that doesn’t count for anything.”

Cuccinelli expressed doubt about Haley’s performance in Nevada, suggesting that she might even be outperformed by Nevada voters’ “none of the above” option on the ballot. Despite Haley’s remarks, Cuccinelli asserted that DeSantis is already ahead of her in terms of delegates and will continue to maintain that lead.

He addressed Haley’s comments from third place, calling it “ironic.” He recalled the Iowa polling that predicted a third-place finish for DeSantis, but the Florida governor surpassed expectations, finishing ahead of Haley.

Cuccinelli attributed DeSantis’ success to his “ground game, effort, and conservative stance.” He anticipated a repeat of this trend in New Hampshire and highlighted the significance of Nevada, which follows South Carolina and New Hampshire in the primary schedule.

When asked about resource allocation and strategic focus, Cuccinelli clarified that Never Back Down is “not skipping New Hampshire.” He mentioned active door-knocking efforts and events with the governor in the state. Cuccinelli dispelled the notion of skipping any state, emphasizing the commitment to contesting everywhere.

He also suggested that the recent endorsement of former President Donald Trump by Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., could have a significant impact, given that Haley appointed him. Cuccinelli predicted that by the time they reach South Carolina, DeSantis will have a comfortable lead in delegates, attributing this to his “conservatism” and effective outreach in the upstate.

In a Monday CBS News/YouGov poll of 2,870 adults conducted Jan. 10-12, the three prominent GOP presidential contenders — former President Donald Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and DeSantis — are all shown to surpass President Joe Biden in hypothetical general election matchups, The Hill reported.

Trump maintains a substantial lead in the GOP primary, commanding 69% support among GOP voters and leading the field by 55 points. Meanwhile, DeSantis secures 14% support, and Haley garners 12%.

The poll carries a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points.
