According to a report from Fox 4, Gina Fowler-Strickland, a representative for police reports, was dismissed on Thursday after a disciplinary hearing with the police chief.
The police department indicated that Strickland’s termination was due to “engaging in adverse conduct related to her arrest for fraudulent, substandard, or fictitious degree.”
Court documents reportedly showed that in June 2023, Strickland was charged with fraud relating to a fictitious degree due to accusations that she had lied about her higher education credentials to obtain a promotion a year earlier.
After failing to attend a scheduled court hearing, a warrant for her arrest was issued in September, although it was later recalled for reasons not disclosed.
The court records also revealed that in November, the district attorney’s office dropped the charges after Strickland completed a pre-trial intervention program.
In Texas, falsely claiming a postsecondary degree for employment or promotion purposes is classified as a class B misdemeanor, which can result in a penalty of up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
